As the 2016/17 season fast approaches the sabres are working hard to try and improve upon last year’s 4-4 record and a first round exit from the playoffs from an undefeated Glasgow team. With the rearranging of the divisions this year this promises to be no easy task due to the addition of an up and coming Manchester team and the presence of bitter rivals Sheffield Hallam. As with every team in Uniball the Sabres have experienced a high degree of roster turnover losing key players such as QB Jacob Hardy, DL Gabriel Njoko, OL Dom LeBlanc and top point scorer Ola Fashoro but with a promising crop of rookies and returning players, optimism pervades throughout the team.

The Sabres are looking forward to using pre-season scrimmages against a strong Nottingham side this Saturday (29/10/16) and an unproven York team next Sunday (06/11/16) to fine-tune returning players and prepare new rookie players with competitive game time.

The season has begun with some personnel changes with new captains Charlie Taylor, Usama Mujtaba and James Wege stepping up on the field, and Coach Lilley assuming the role of Offensive Coordinator. Joining the coaching staff this year we have Jacob Hardy (Quarterbacks), Jake Alexander (Receivers), Chris Cooper (Asst. Offensive Line) and George Foster (Asst. Linebackers) who already seem to be making a significant positive impact.

Starting QB James Wege has looked very strong in training on the ground and through the air which looks promising when combined with the ever strengthening receiver corp. The Defence hope to use the preseason games to refine their new playbook against highly competitive Offensive sides.
