Meet the Captains

The 2016/17 Season is fast approaching and so it’s time to introduce you to this seasons captains, voted in by the players themselves.

First off is #54 Usama Mujtaba (Middle Linebacker) entering his third season as Sabres’ captain. Although enrolled in a work placement for the duration of this year, his presence is well and truly known. With one of the biggest voices on the team he forever leads from the front with energy and physicality stimulating a sense of urgency within the team. We look forward to seeing what Usama can do on the field after an off-season focused around speed and power shaping him into a more athletic player.

#10 James Wege (Quarterback) has stepped into the starting QB and captaincy roles this season after years of hard work and dedication to the team. As a leader of the Offence, James’ composed presence and athletic ability off and on the field proves an exciting prospect for what the Offensive team can do this year. Hopefully dentist Wege will be able to brush aside the opponents this year, with all the tools capable of filling in the cavity that graduating quarterback Jacob Hardy has left.

Finally #48 Charlie Taylor (Outside Linebacker) is entering his first season as a captain for the sabres. The strong and athletic player has been a leader from his first year, finishing the season as Rookie Defensive MVP and Overall Defensive MVP after his second. A favourite among players with an ‘actions speak louder than words’ attitude, he has an instinct for making plays and getting stuck into the action. The linebacker is set to make a big impact this year and finish his Sabres career with a bang.

Each game week, our fourth captain will be voted in by the coaches based on who they think is most deserved of an opportunity to lead the team, taking into account their skills as a leader as well as their dedication and hard work put in for the team.
