After a preseason game against York Centurions last week, the Sabres prepare to take on Leeds Beckett (Carnegie) at Leeds on Sunday in their first league game of the year. Having split the series 1-1 with Leeds last season, including a heart-breaking overtime loss, the Sabres anticipate a tough game against an always physical Leeds team. Unfortunately, due to injuries throughout the preseason, some players have had to fill in at new positions and some may even play both ways on Sunday. Following their Week 1 defeat to the Hallam Warriors, we have no doubt Leeds will look to start the game fast. Our defence must fire on all cylinders and execute Coach Jelly’s game-plan as we hope to contain the run heavy, misdirection based Leeds Offence. On the other side of the ball, the Offence are confident that they can put points on the board and secure a win for a strong start to the year.
