After a preseason game against York Centurions last week, the Sabres prepare to take on Leeds Beckett (Carnegie) at Leeds on Sunday in their first league game of the year. Having split the series 1-1 with Leeds last season, including a heart-breaking overtime loss, the Sabres anticipate a tough game against an always physical Leeds team. Following a successful recruitment drive and (good) preparation, the Sabres travelled to Nottingham Uni for their first preseason scrimmage, giving both players and coaches an opportunity to showcase their talent.

As the 2016/17 season fast approaches the sabres are working hard to try and improve upon last year’s 4-4 record and a first round exit from the playoffs from an undefeated Glasgow team. With the rearranging of the divisions this year this promises to be no easy task due to the addition of an up and coming Manchester team and the presence of bitter rivals Sheffield Hallam. First off is #54 Usama Mujtaba (Middle Linebacker) entering his third season as Sabres’ captain. Although enrolled in a work placement for the duration of this year, his presence is well and truly known. With one of the biggest voices on the team he forever leads from the front with energy and physicality stimulating a sense of urgency within the team
